Paiwan tribe habitats are concentrated in southern regions of Taiwan: Dawu Mountain to the north; Hengchun to the south; Fangliao to the west; and southern coast of Taimali to the east. Clans which currently live in mountainous regions below elevation of 1,000 meters include the Raval and the Vutsul. The Vutsul clan is divided into branches of: Paumaumag (northern Paiwan tribe), Chaoboobol and Parilario (southern Paiwan tribes), as well as Paquaroqaro (eastern Paiwan tribe).
Paiwan population condenses around Pingtung County: Laiyi Township has the most; others spread among the Townships of Majia, Sandimen, Taiwu, Chunrih, Shihzih, Mudan, etc. Some administrative districts in Taitung County are also habitats of the Paiwan people; total Paiwan tribe population in Taiwan is around 81,000.
